This had been an inexpensive but functional coffee table for many years. However, the legs were attached using soft, mild-steel hardware that was failing, leaving the owners to re-attach the legs repeatedly.
I removed the failing hardware, reshaped the legs, crafted solid blocks to accept mortises, reshaped the top to match the much more contemporary lines of the new undercarriage, and finally stripped and refinished the entire piece. The table's second life will outlast its first thanks to the traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery now holding it together.
