- Soap, Milk Paint
Built at the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute following a form by chairmaker Jeff Lefkowitz, this chair was a personal milestone: both the first ladderback chair I shaped and the first seat I wove. I departed from tradition by piercing a long void through each back slat, giving the visual lightness of four slender slats with the structural integrity of two.
A traditional soap finish keeps the ash bright and pale so it harmonises with the natural tan of the woven Danish cord seat. Soap finishes are a joy -- easy to maintain and wonderfully soft and silky under the hand.
